Last Piece of My Heart

Writer's picture: Brandon HaymanBrandon Hayman

So let me keep the last piece of my heart

Don't waste your breath on me

Don't tell me sweet words

Don't entice me with new beginnings

You can't keep your promises to me

Now in me is bitter violence

Visions of physical altercation and bashing skulls

Whimpers of broken souls

Voices that cry, but not for my name

So let me keep the last piece of my heart

The last vestige of my love

The last part that can sustain me

My spiritual tether to my being, my mind, my whole reserve

And I'm sorry if my judgment is harsh

But truly I don't think you have what it takes

You don't have the stamina nor the care to hold a person right

So you have nothing real in you

So when you ask something real of me

Just let me keep the last piece of my heart
